Abstract

This research is motivated by issues related to teachers’ adversity quotient, which is influenced by emotional exhaustion in carrying out professional duties at school. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of emotional exhaustion on teachers’ adversity quotient at State Senior High Schools in Padang. The method used is quantitative. The research population consists of 343 State Senior High School teachers in Padang, and the sample is determined using a cluster stratified sampling technique by calculating the sample size using the Cochran formula, namely 201 teachers drawn from 10 State Senior High Schools in Padang. Data collection uses a Likert-scale questionnaire. Data analysis is carried out descriptively by calculating the mean, median, mode, and standard deviation. The results of the normality test show 0.200 > 0.05, and the linearity test shows 0.087 > 0.05. The simple linear regression test shows a constant value of 130.002 and a regression coefficient of 0.300, which is positive, indicating that emotional exhaustion has a positive effect on teachers’ adversity quotient. The t-test result is 4.197 > 1.652, and the R² test result shows that emotional exhaustion contributes 22.7% to teachers’ adversity quotient. The results of the study show that: 1) teachers’ emotional exhaustion at State Senior High Schools in Padang is in the high category with an achievement score of 84.5%; however, the high score indicates that the level of teachers’ emotional exhaustion is relatively low; 2) teachers’ adversity quotient at State Senior High Schools in Padang is in the high category with an achievement level of 90%; and 3) emotional exhaustion has an effect on teachers’ adversity quotient, where low emotional exhaustion contributes to a high level of teachers’ adversity quotient at State Senior High Schools in Padang
